Ember in Monument has now launched it’s long-awaited breakfast menu. From 7.30am until Midday, hungry City dwellers can feast on delicious breakfast dishes with an Asian twist, in one of the most stylish venues in the square mile.

Decadent hot dishes include home cured wagyu corned beef hash with fried eggs and chili jam, and gin spiced lamb bacon with sake cured egg, tomatoes, labne, date ketchup and pomegranate.

For lighter options, a specially curated ‘raw menu’ features buckwheat and blueberry cream with almond milk, kiwi fruit and alfonso mango, plus our personal favourite – coconut granola bars with manuka honey, medjool dates and matcha green tea cream.

Baked goods include flourless orange & almond cake, and fresh fig & kaya scones.

Wash it down with a turmeric, orange, carrot & pineapple juice.

Ember is open for breakfast from 7.30am – 12pm, Monday to Friday.

Craft and Crackling at The George, Andaz Liverpool Street

The ultimate pub snack experience has landed: The George pub in Liverpool Street has launched the UK’s first craft beer and crackling menu, where each home-made crackling has been paired with a London craft beer.

Tuck into chicken crackling washed down with Redchurch Brewery: Shoreditch Blonde, mouth watering parma ham crackling with East London Brewery: Pale Ale, classic pork crackling, dipped in their secret prune ketchup, paired with Partizan Brewery: Lemongrass Saison, or our personal favourite – parmesan & polenta crackling, with Redemption Brewery: Hopspur.

The George’s main menu has also had a revamp, with comforting classics like mac and cheese, bangers & mash and fish & chips in a choice of craft beer or stout batter, and smarter dishes such as trout with a shellfish bisque and a delicious beetroot, goats cheese and pine nut tatan.

With all the major football matches showing on the big screen, an extensive craft beer list and now a cracking crackling menu to boot, The George at the Andaz is your new favourite City boozer.

Treves & Hyde at Leman Locke

Hotel options in the City of London just got a whole lot more dynamic with the opening of Leman Locke in Aldgate. Designed for travellers for whom a bed and shower in a shoebox isn’t enough, Leman Locke immerses you in its neighbourhood’s culture through self-catering apartment spaces that connect you to a community of like-minded locals and travellers.

Attached to the development is Treves & Hyde – a swish restaurant and bar set among two floors with Scandi-inspired decor and exec chef George Tannock at the helm.

 

With stints at The Dorchester and the Fat Duck under his belt, Tannock’s menu does not disappoint; black arancini made with home-baked sourdough, venison tartare with truffle, burnt ketchup and carta di musica, and diver scallops with pickled cabbage, chicken skin, cep and chestnut make for a delectable starter selection.

Mains include an extremely tender lemon buttermilk chicken and beef brisket with bacon pudding and marinda tomato. Each dish has been well thought out and has its own unique twist, including the sweet potato wedges which are drizzled in tahini sauce, and the delectable chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream, where the pastry base is replaced with crunchy cornflakes.

This approach can also be felt in the cocktail menu; mixologist Stefano Campigli has devised a weekly rotating menu of little known classics, and makes all his own syrups onsite. The result is a collection of some of the best (and strongest) cocktails in the area.

With cocktails at £10, mains from £8 – £16 and a diverse wine list, Treves & Hyde is smart but affordable drinks and dinner venue.

Breakfast at the Andaz, Liverpool Street

The Andaz is a luxury 5* Hotel nestled between the City and Shoreditch. With beautiful bedrooms and a plethora of swanky function rooms it’s well known to many city dwellers. But what many people don’t know, is that you don’t need a booking there to enjoy its breakfast.

For £28 per head, guests can enjoy what must be the most decadent and comprehensive breakfast buffet in town, set in a fantastically grand dining room.

The a’la carte menu features perfect eggs benedict and florentine, along with waffles and pancakes with streaky bacon, maple syrup and fresh berries.

The buffet offers a high quality Full English, homemade porridge with all the toppings, and charcuterie boards with Spitalfields cheese, Loch Fyne smoked salmon, herring, pickles and vegetables.

Fresh fruit and yoghurt sits alongside granolas, cereals and fresh pastries. Freshly squeezed orange, apple, carrot and beetroot juices are available to wash it all down with along with coffees and jing teas.

Guests are free to replenish their plates as many times as they are able to.
